Help paying for your medication
Pharmaceutical companies and some foundations offer patient assistance programs that provide free and low-cost medications to those who qualify. To see if your medication is available in a program, start by searching for your medication below.
How to apply for a patient assistance program
Find your medication
Use our database to search for your medication.
Check whether you qualify
Each program has its own guidelines. Some common requirements are:
- Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident
- Be uninsured or underinsured
- Not qualify for state or federal programs, such as Medicare or Medicaid
- Meet program income guidelines, which are often a percentage of the federal poverty guidelines
Gather your documents
Programs usually ask for proof of income, such as a tax return, pay stubs, or a Social Security statement. Some also ask for a prescription or a letter showing you were turned down by Medicaid or your insurance.
Fill out the application with your doctor
Most applications need your prescriber's signature and information. Print the form and bring it, with your documents, to your next appointment.
Send it and follow up
Mail or fax the application as requested by the program. It may take time for your application to be processed. If you haven't heard back in a few weeks, call the program directly. Most programs require re-enrollment. Be sure to note when you'll need to re-enroll so your medication does not stop.
RxAssist is not affiliated with these programs and does not process any applications. For questions about a specific program, please contact the program directly.
Talk to your doctor about cost
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you can't afford your medication. Your provider may be able to offer a low-cost alternative or provide samples while you apply for assistance. Community health centers, free clinics, and local programs may also be able to help.
